Sister Rosalie's Shopping Club

So, you're at the grocery store and you see spaghetti sauce on sale. The deal is just too good to pass up. Why not pick up some to feed the hungry in our community, in addition to feeding your family?

Sister Rosalie's Gateway to Heaven Shopping Club is a part of the Society that asks if you have 50 cents, $1 or $5 to spare, the food you buy with it can go to the Society's food pantry. You shop in your favorite stores, including grocery stores. You buy things like clothing, housewares or food when you see them on sale at rock-bottom prices, and then you donate them to St. Vincent de Paul.

We know that people generally do not write out checks for 50 cents or a dollar! But they are willing to help in small or even large ways, by picking up extras during their normal shopping trips.

By the way, the word "club" is used very loosely. There are no meetings to attend, no rules, and no dues.

You join by giving us an email address or home address. We send out a weekly email directing you to all the neat sales in the area - and to update you on the needs of the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry. You can turn the purchased items into your parish (although, you need not be Catholic, nor a Vincentian, to participate), or to the Thrift Store. We can also arrange a pickup at your home or business.

The principle works for clothing items and school supplies as well as food. We operate on the principle that if 100 people are at the store that week and pick up socks, or notebooks or peanut butter, then that's 100 pairs of socks, or 100 notebooks, or 100 jars of peanut butter that we didn't have before.

You'll also get a newsletter with wonderful articles about Sister Rosalie Rendu (a feisty nun from the early 1800's, who received from the rich and gave to the poor "with one hand") , and other information.

Club "membership" is open to men, women and children of all faiths.
