Direct Assistance
Food Assistance
The St. Vincent de Paul Society provides food assistance to individuals and families in need. This ordinarily occurs through person-to-person contact in the home. To receive food assistance, call the Emergency Assistance office at (574) 234-6000 Opt 2. If for some reason, delivery to your home is not an option, our food pantry and bread basket are open for business at the new St. Vincent de Paul Programs building located at 520 Crescent Avenue, South Bend (Directions). These services are available: Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Walk-in clients are also accepted at this location during the hours mentioned above.
Clothing and Furniture Assistance
The St. Vincent de Paul Society provides clothing, household goods and furniture assistance to individuals and families in need of these items through person-to-person contact in the home or individual consultation at the Assistance Office. Volunteers visit families and get to know them, and through this process, discern what kind of assistance they need. This includes clothing for all ages and sizes including infants, toddlers, children, teenagers, adults and seniors. Beds and furniture are also available. For assistance or for more information, call (574) 234-6000 Opt 2 to set up an appointment for consultation or to ask your questions. Our Assistance office phone line is open 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Emergency Financial Assistance
St. Vincent's provides assistance to individuals and families suffering financial hardship through the Stone Soup Community. Stone Soup is available to help understand what kind of assistance is needed. Once they determine the needs, we are able to offer emergency financial assistance, such as help with rent or utilities. To receive help, call (574) 246-0364 if you live in South Bend or Mishawaka.
